VA Beach Amer.Music Fest = "10" Sheryl Crow = "2"
I've seen Streetlight Manifesto perform many times, and I completely get why someone would pay $100 to sit on the sand and watch them - they usually put on a fantastic show. Her voice was weak, performance lackluster, and you could really feel she was just going through the motions of the "rock star moves" - high leg kicks, hair swings - without any heart or feeling. The minute she came out and started singing the first song, I wished she had somehow sent a stand-in. She left skid marks exiting as quickly as possible, and it was clear she just wanted to leave. I have seen her perform with her band, and even watched Kid Rock headline just to see her come out and do a few songs with him. Thank God she brought Phil Vasser with her - he was outstanding. He was an amazing performer, all the energy and talent Sheryl's audience deserved for driving so far and paying so much to see her. I will never buy another Sheryl Crow ticket, but I will be checking out Phil Vasser's concert schedule and looking for his next CD too. He made the American Music Festival in Virginia Beach the best hour I had at this venue. Bring him back, Virginia Beach!
